The first monograph on Jan Dobkowski (b. 1942), artist, painter, performer, creator of spatial works, co-founder and member, alongside Jerzy Jurry Zieliński, of the Neo-neo-neo duo (the two artists exhibited together from 1967 to 1970).

Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. His success at the exhibition Secession-Secession? at the Contemporary Gallery (Warsaw, 1968) led to his participation in the display of Polish art in Paris: Modern Polish Painting – Sources and Searches. Soon afterwards, New York’s Guggenheim Museum purchased his painting Double Girl (1968), the first red-green canvas by Dobkowski. The artist later continued his series of similar works, in which red silhouettes stood out from green backgrounds, and which became the starting point for further pieces, including spatial works. Dobkowski participated in major events of Polish art, such as the Wrocław ’70 Symposium and the Meetings of Artists, Scientists and Art Theorists in Osieki. He has created several dozen series of paintings and drawings from the 1960s until the present day.

Jan Dobkowski participated in several hundred exhibitions in Poland and internationally. Holder of a Kościuszko Foundation scholarship in 1972. Honoured with the Cyprian Kamil Norwid Award (1978) and the Jan Cybis Award for lifetime artistic achievement (1994). Honorary citizen of the city of Łomża as of 3 June 1998. Decorated with the Silver Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis in 2012.
