Archival Activities Support – Inventory, Conservation and Digitisation of Paweł Kwiek’s Archive

In 2020, the Arton Foundation conducted an inventory of Paweł Kwiek’s entire archive, including works donated to us by the artist in 2018. Photographs, drawings and painting have undergone remedial conservation; ca 300 works have been digitised and are now available in the Forgotten Heritage repository; these have also been transferred to the National Digital Archives. The materials will be used in the publication currently prepared by the Arton Foundation to mark Paweł Kwiek’s 70th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of his creative work.

Paweł Kwiek (b. 1951) is an avant-garde filmmaker and photographer, pioneer of video art in Poland and performer. One of the most original artists on the Polish scene in the 1970s. Graduate of the Film School in Łódź and a co-founder of the Workshop of the Film Form (active until 1978). In the 1980s and 1990s, Kwiek created pieces that represented the tradition of Conceptual art while maintaining a profound metaphysical profile. His works belong to the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź and the ERSTE Foundation in Vienna, amongst other institutions.
